U16's through to County Cup Quarter Finals
Three Bridges Colts U16 4-3 ASC Strikers U16
Finding themselves a goal down inside three minutes the Three Bridges under 16 side thought things would not get any tougher in this Sussex County Cup fixture against ASC Strikers who are top of Sussex Sunday league one. Bridges were wrong however as they conceded a second goal on 13 minutes from ASC taking a short corner and caught Bridges still getting organised.
Three Bridges had matched ASC though through that period and got themselves back in the game with a good knock down by Bradley Campbell to Sayif Ahmed to being the game back to 2-1 on twenty five minutes. This goal knocked ASC briefly and Bridges scored again a minute later with Luke Scott assisting George Gunning who scored from close range.
Taking things into half time level was important for the team and Bridges came out in the second half with good tempo and belief. It was Bridges though that struck earliest in this half with Campbell this time scoring himself from an Ahmed assist, this put Bridges ahead for the first time in the game.
Ahmed had a very good opportunity to extend the lead on 53 minutes beating the offside trap and three on one with the goal keeper Ahmed shot was well saved. It looked like ASC might punish that missed opportunity as they worked hard to get back into the game. On 58 minutes they did get an equaliser from a free kick. A headed knock down from the kick allowing the ASC winger to score a close range effort.
Bridges looked the more dangerous though going forward and Luke Scott scored a fourth on 70 minutes from a delightful ball from Campbell, splitting the defence for Scott to run on at the keeper. He made no mistake and the team celebrated being ahead for a second time. Bridges had another good opportunity a minute later but the keeper saved well.
ASC created a good chance with five minutes left but Harry Powling in goal saved well and the defence cleared the rebound. Bridges saw out the game and enjoyed a win against the team who were currently unbeaten in the Sussex Sunday leagues. The next round sees Three Bridges play away to Crawley United in the quarter final.
