1st lose to Horsham 2-0
Bridges beaten again
Yet again we left a game cursing our bad luck, but the difference between the sides was that Horsham took two of their chances and we failed to unsettle keeper Josh Pelling despite having plenty of possession and looking threatening whenever we attacked. But once again the Gods were against us as a traffic accident meant that three of our players weren’t able to get to the ground in time for kick off, although bizarrely they would have made a 7.45 start!
Horsham took an early lead when a poor clearance after seven minutes fell kindly to George Gaskin to drill his side ahead. We must have feared the worst, but we responded with a free kick by Steve Sargent that Pelling held well and a curling effort from Abu Touray, playing his first game for us this season if you don’t count the abandoned match at Ramsgate in December.
Gaskin tried an overhead kick and also forced Kieron Thorp to make a good save, whilst in that dreaded first minute of the second half a decent ball from Tom Lawley should really have been converted by Gaskin, but Thorp reacted well to keep it out.
The always busy Matt Whitehead created a chance for Kieran Allen Djilali, whose shot was just wide, whilst a low shot by Tony Garrod was gathered comfortably by Pelling. Horsham were by now happy to counter attack when they could, and Thorp was forced to keep out a header by Tony Nwachukwu and a free kick by Scott Kirkwood. Our defence, superbly marshalled by Dan Mobsby and John Lansdale, kept the home attack quiet for much of the time, whilst at the other end both Maxime Agnoly and Djilali had efforts blocked in quick succession. And with time running out Djilali saw a shot go wide and was astounded when the referee awarded a goal kick despite the Assistant clearly signalling a corner!
To add final insult, in the last minute of normal time, with Ned Pierre seeming to be fouled in the build up, Gaskin found himself free again to seal the points on another frustrating evening for Bridges.
